With our lodge nestling in the beautiful village of Madjare at the edge of the Rila National Park your daily excursion exploring the forest and mountain trails starts at the front door of the accommodation. Routes are available to suit all abilities from grueling challenges that will test every muscle in your body on dirt tracks and mountain paths to slow leisurely rides through open countryside watching local farmers working the fields as their forefathers have done for millennia. This suggested itinerary can be modified and adjusted to suit your own specific needs. You may prefer to spend your full holiday in the mountains on the toughest of challenges but this schedule has been prepared to encompass the variety of biking holidays that are available.
Day 1 – Collection from Sofia airport and transfer to our lodge in the village of Madjare. Dependent on your time of arrival the rest of the day will either be a short ride exploring the local villages of Mala Tsarkva, Madjare and Govedartsi or relaxing whilst your host prepares dinner.
Day 2 - Madjare to Borovets via Beli Iskar taking the picturesque route on the mountain road. Just before you enter Borovets visit the Bistritsa Palace a rambling white washed mansion with carved wooden balconies originally built as a hunting lodge for Tsar Ferdinand. From Borovets take the main road to Samokov then return to Madjare via the village of Dospei. This is the first chance to do a bit of off roading as you cross the rugged hills that separate the Cerni Iskar valley from the flat planes around Samokov.
Day 3 – Madjare - Goverdartsi – Vada – Seven Lakes- Mount Malyovista – Malyovista resort – Goverdartsi – Madjare.
Day 4 – Madjare – Beli Iskar – Granchar mountain hut – Mount Moussala – Yastrebets – Beli Iskar – Madjare.
Day 5 – A day sight seeing in Samokov, Dupnitsa, Sofia or maybe relaxing at a local spa.
Day 6 – Madjare – Goverdartsi – Malyovista – Rila Monastery - Fish Lakes – Dry Lake – Kobilino mountain hut – Goverdartsi – Madjare. (On reaching the Rila Monastery you may wish to take the rest of the day exploring rather than continuing on to the Fish Lakes).
Day 7 – Madjare to Borovets via Beli Iskar on forest trails. Borovets to Maritza hut partially following the river on the return to Borovets. The return from Borovets can either be via Beli Iskar or Samokov.
Day 8 - Departure day and time to say your fond farewells before you transfer to Sofia Airport.
We would strongly recommend that you bring your own mountain bike with you but if you let us know we can arrange the hire of a bike with a Sofia based company. All guests who wish to participate in mountain biking and cycling tours must bring their own helmets.
Cycling Tours
You can either plan your own daily routes or join an organized tour with the bicycle hire company.
The cycling tours avoid the congested tourist areas in favour of Bulgaria's more secluded regions that shelter ancient historical sights, splendid scenery, and natural wonders. Each route is thoroughly researched to make sure that you are taken on the best back roads and footpaths.
The tours are made up of moderate day stages and last from a few days to as many as 14 days. The physical demands range from easy to challenging. Furthermore, we will take you to local points of interest. In addition to guided tours, you will be given ample time to do some exploring on your own We focus on individual private tours. We aim to satisfy those who seek mobility and privacy and wish to enjoy the individual experience, but who would also like to share their experience with other like-minded enthusiasts.
